Rafael Mariano condemned the violence that ensued at Hacienda Luisita over the weekend that stemmed from RCBC ‘s claims on the 500 hectares (has.) of land inside Hacienda Luisita. Farmers tried to bring down the perimeter fences built by RCBC on the disputed land that was illegally sold by the Cojuangco-Aquinos to RCBC. The act, according to Mariano is a ‘just assertion’ of the farmers’ right to the lands.
