Butuan City – Amid alarm raised by the urban poor group Kadamay ofnthe abduction of two of their community organizers along Angat-Pandi Road in Angat town, Bulaan province, Anakpawis Party-list Representative Ariel “Ka Ayik” Casilao condemed the abduction and strongly demanded their immediate surfacing and release.
Kadamay organizer John Griefen Arlegui and Anakbayan organizer Reynaldo Remias, Jr., were abducted by armed men along the highway in Brgy. Sta. Cruz, while on an “Operation Dikit” of posters of Makabayan senatoriable Neri Colmenares and Bayan Muna party-list. Kadamay accused the 48th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, as perpetrators.
“We join their families in demanding their immediate surfacing and release. This is an outright attack against the legal-democratic movement who is presently engaging in the supposedly free elections,” the lawmaker said in a press statement.
Kadamay Pandi chapter has earned the ire of the Duterte government for their “Occupy Pabahay” campaign or the occupation of dilapidated housing units supposedly for uniformed personnels. A joint house resolution was approved in May last year to entitle them as beneficiaries. But the National Housing Authority (NHA) continued to scheme against them by not crafting the implementing guidelines and continued split off their group. Last March, some of them fell victims to a “tanim bala” operation and were arrested.
“We demand respect to the basic rights of the victims. Ultimately, we hold the Duterte administration as responsible, especially when it is on full-throttle of red-baiting and villifying activists and progressive party-list candidates, across the country,” he ended. ###
