Makati City – Anakpawis Party-list Ariel “Ka Ayik’ Casilao today joined the protest action led by Madaum Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association Inc. (MARBAI), at the gates of Lapanday central office to condemn the continuing defiance of the banana export company of the many orders of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), especially the Writ of Installation of 159 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) on the 145-hectare land located in Brgy. San Isidro, Tagum City, Davao Del Norte. The protest was joined by members of Anakpawis, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan.

“The whole country witnessed the president’s assurance for MARBAI farmers when he visited the camp-out in Mendiola, in this light, we warn those colluding with Lapanday, especially the the local police, not to undermine his promise, instead sincerely execute their installation,” Casilao said during the protest.

Casilao also slammed the desperate attempt of Lapanday to twist President Duterte’s pronouncement in their favor, particularly their insinuating of “rule of law.”

“Lapanday or the Lorenzo family, as a landlord-oligarch will never recognize the quasi-judicial powers of DAR, when it is unfavorable, hence, it is a SOP for them to use regular courts,” the lawmaker said.

He added that the Lorenzo is not only guilty of contempt against DAR Secretary Rafael “Ka Paeng” Mariano but also against President Duterte, as the former is the alter-ego of the latter for the agrarian reform agenda.

“We are also thankful of the followers of the president who supported the MARBAI farmers, we are urging more of this, as this is towards the change the president promised,” Casilao said.

The lawmaker reiterated his call to hold the Lorenzos of the social injustice against the farmers, the violent attack last December and new year’s day and the continuing grabbing of lands with the use of their private armed group.

“The Lorenzos have no moral basis for their claim, explainable of their use of armed force, thus, we are looking forward on the actual direct action by the Duterte government to quell this enemy of change,” Casilao said. ###
