Anakpawis to Aquino: Regulate oil industry, enough of bogus subsidies

Anakpawis – a partylist that mainly represents farmers, fisherfolk, drivers, and workers –  today said  its constituents are tired and enraged over false solutions of the Aquino administration on oil price hikes, such as the “pantawid pasada” subsidies.

“We do not need fake remedies to the very real sufferings we endure from high prices of oil and basic basic goods. Fuel subsidies will never solve the problem. The oil deregulation law should be scrapped, oil prices should be subject to regulation as a first step, and the oil industry should be nationalized in the long run – this is the real solution,” Anakpawis Executive Vice President Joel Maglunsod declared.

“Hanggang kelan tayo maitatawid ng mga ‘pantawid na solusyon’ ng administrasyong Aquino? Hangga’t hindi tumataas ang ratings niya?” Maglunsod remarked.

Maglunsod reiterated the call for Malacañang to ‘certify as urgent’ House Bill 4317, or the repeal of oil deregulation law, a proposed legislation primary authored by Anakpawis Partylist.

“Oil price hikes should not happen whenever the oil cartel wants it, the excessive profiteering of the big three oil companies should be scrutinized – ito ang totoong makapagtatawid sa atin mula sa pagsasamantala ng ganid na oil companies,” ani Maglunsod.

The explanatory note of House Bill 4317 indicates that Pilipinas Shell, Chevron Philippines, and Petron Corp. were in the top ten companies in the country with the most profits in 2009.

According to the House Bill also, the NEDA already discovered an overprice of as much as P8.12 per liter last year.
